When someone decides to cosign on a
bail bond, they’re not only guaranteeing that the bondsman’s fee will be paid,
they’re also taking full legal responsibility that the defendant is going to go
to court and finish their case.
When a defendant skips bail (misses
a court date), the bondsman, and the person who cosigned for them, have a set period
of time to find and bring them back. If
they aren’t successful, the court will issue a forfeiture, which requires that
the defendant’s full bail bond amount be paid to the court as a penalty.
The responsibility to pay will
ultimately fall to the person who cosigned for the Los Angeles Bail Bond. Because of this scenario, be sure you know
the person very well that you are considering cosigning a bail bond for.
